There’s only a few reasons left to buy music.  You certainly don’t have to buy it to experience it anymore.  There is more legal music available for free than any one person could listen too in a lifetime, so I’m compiling a list of reasons why people still buy.  I’m sure I’ve left quite a few so I encourage your feedback.

Artists: You have 2 options: Either can be successful.

1. Appeal to the masses, the lowest common denominator, or the average (mean).

2. Find a niche audience.

Number 1:

Pros: Fame, Fortune, Mass Audience, Recouped Advances, Radio Spins, World Tour, Mass Merch Sales, Creative Freedom on a Prefabbed Platform after x# Albums of Service, Quick Signs of Success, Distribution

Cons: x# Albums of Service, Fickle Audience , Creative Sterilization, Quick Signs of Failure, Burden of Saving a Desperate and Impatient Business Model, Fair Weather Fans, Hyper Competitive, Image Compromise

Number 2:

Pros: Complete Creative Control, Complete Image Control, Scheduling Freedom, Fan Loyalty and Support, Nimble Operation, Limited Red-Tape,

Cons: Slow Build, Smaller Fan Base Potential, No Big Advances, Everything is DIY, Distribution
